We’re delighted to announce that the City of London (CoL), the government body for the “Square Mile” business district, have appointed Angel Academe to run a mentoring programme for women entrepreneurs.

The programme is part of CoL’s ongoing commitment to support enterprise and small businesses both in the City and its neighbouring boroughs. It aims to help 15-20 female entrepreneurs grow their businesses by offering a combination of brainstorming, education, peer accountability and support in a group setting to sharpen business and personal skills.

Angel Academe will provide support and encouragement from fellow entrepreneurs and business mentors drawing on its extensive network of business mentors and contacts. Specific areas of guidance will cover areas as diverse as Business and Financial Planning, Leadership, Technology, Marketing/PR and Sales, Product Development, Analytics and Investment Readiness. The course will also provide an opportunity to network, build relationships, learn from other people’s experiences and share their own.

Lord Mayor Fiona Woolf said: “Small businesses are vital to our economy and we need to ensure that female entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to be able to contribute to growth. This programme will build a platform on which those taking part can build their skills and in doing so help their businesses to thrive.”

Audrey Klein, Managing Director at Blackstone, entrepreneur and founding member of Angel Academe, says: “This is a fantastic moment for Angel Academe. We’re just over a year old and in that time have worked hard to raise awareness of angel investing to senior professional and entrepreneurial women and to create a syndicate of active women investors. We believe that entrepreneurship creates great leadership opportunities for women. Working with the City on this fantastic initiative will allow us to harness the skills of our network of women leaders to support the next generation of women entrepreneurs.”

The course will begin in April 2014; recruitment of entrepreneurs is now open and applications can be made online at: http://angelacade.me/entrepreneur-academe/.

Notes to Editors:

The City of London Corporation: as the body providing local government services to the “Square Mile” business district around St Paul’s, the City of London Corporation’s primary role is to support and enhance the business City – a world-leading international financial and related business hub. The City of London Corporation is also committed to working with its neighbours to support the regeneration of local communities. The “Square Mile” shares its borders with some of the country’s most deprived boroughs where unemployment remains high.

Angel Academe is a network for senior professional women (and men) with extensive business experience who want to support other entrepreneurs – as mentors, non-executive directors and angel investors. Our members have very diverse backgrounds with plenty of value to add. Some of the skills include Technology, Finance, HR, Legal, Marketing, PR, Sales, Operations and more. Many have held or hold senior management positions in all sizes of companies from high growth potential start-ups to multinationals. We believe that to help more women go big with their ventures, we need to increase the number of women mentors and investors.
